Around 1820, the German doctor Justinus Kerner described botulin toxin as "sausage poison", because the deadly Clostridium botulinum bacterium is often found in meat products. The medical name for the food poisoning it can cause is "botulism", from the Latin word botulus, meaning "sausage". Which brings us to Nicole Kidman. Born on 20 June 1967, she may be the most highly paid acctress in Hollywood. Her skin is so perfect, so smooth, that some people say she uses "cosmetic skin treatment" to stay so youthful-looking. When people say "cosmetic skin treatment", they often mean "anti-wrinkle therapy". In a word: Botox. Botox, the commercial name of botulinum toxin type A, is a neuro-toxin produced by Clostridium botulinum. It can block the signals that make your muscles move. So? Well, if the muscles that cause those frown lines on your forehead could be prevented from moving, you too, could have skin like Nicole Kidman's. If part of your face can't move, it can't wrinkle. That's how Botox works. /201003/98490How do you spend your off hours? Do you watch television? Do you surf the web? Read articles here at Lifehack.org? There are many ways you can spend your leisure time. But is it really possible to get more out of your time off? Not just making this time more productive, but actually making it more enjoyable.Breaking the Work/Play DistinctionI believe the answer goes against what many of us have been taught about how to spend our free time. From early childhood we’ve been taught to divide everything to do into two groups, work and leisure. Work consists of all the things we need to do and leisure is everything else.Splitting the world this way isn’t necessarily wrong. But the subtle message contained in this split is that work and leisure shouldn’t resemble each other. Your work needs to be productive, efficient and challenging. Therefore leisure should be relaxing, accomplish nothing and be free of pressures. Why This Kills Your Free TimeThe problem is this assumption, that work should be the opposite of leisure, ruins your free time. The belief that the most enjoyable moments of life are spent relaxing in the fruits of our labor doesn’t match the real world. Research has shown that the most enjoyable moments of our life are the ones where we are most engaged.Psychology researcher Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi recorded this phenomenon. He did this through a device that pinged at random points in time. The subject then filled out a form based on their feelings, thoughts and current activity. What he found was people have more enjoyable experiences from work than from their time off. He mentions this paradox in his book, Flow:“Thus we have the paradoxical situation: On the job people feel skillful and challenged, and therefore feel more happy, strong, creative and satisfied. In their free time people feel that there is generally not much to do and their skills are not being used, and therefore tend to feel more sad, weak dull and dissatisfied. Yet they would like to work less and spend more time in leisure.” [emphasis mine]I believe the dissatisfaction for work stems from the external need to work. Since we cannot exercise freedom in choosing to show up every morning, it is easy to begrudge the time there. Even if it produces positive experiences in our lives. The Answer Isn’t Becoming a WorkaholicI don’t believe the resolution of this problem, is to work all the time. I think that would only exacerbate a situation where people feel trapped by oppressive work schedules. Even if jobs can produce, challenging flow experiences, putting all your eggs into one basket can be risky.Instead, Fill Your Spare Time With Active LeisureActive leisure is free activities you choose that challenge and fulfill you. But because you take up these tasks through internal desires, not external constraints, you won’t feel trapped by them. Many people have found ways to incorporate active leisure into their lives. Taking up hobbies, sports and learning new skills even when time is limited. But as the standard forty hour workweek gets pushed longer and passive entertainment becomes easier to consume, it is harder to take up active leisure.Leisure is Hard WorkUpgrading your leisure time to make it more enjoyable isn’t always easy. This may sound backwards, since many people believe the purpose of leisure is to be easy. But sometimes the benefits of being active in your time off aren’t immediately apparent.Activity requires that you invest your attention. The body was designed to be efficient, not enjoyable, so it may resist your attempts to invest energy in anything non-essential.How to Start the Active Leisure HabitThere are many ways you can upgrade your leisure time, but it requires effort. Unlike watching television or relaxing, opportunities for flow need to be structured in advance. It can sometimes require planning and always requires an initial push of momentum to get started.I suggest an experiment. Try replacing some low-energy task with a more engaging one. Continue it for a month. After that month, if you don’t feel the new task is more satisfying than your old usage of time, quit. This is about enjoyment, not productivity, so you don’t need to feel guilty if you decide to switch back later.Suggestions for Active LeisureHere are a couple ideas to get the ball rolling:1. Join Toastmasters -At toastmasters.org you can find clubs near your location. There are thousands of them and they are a great experience. I’ve known many people who tell me Toastmasters is the highlight of their week.2. Start a Craft -Try learning a new hobby or restarting an old one. Painting, woodworking, sculpting, programming or blogging are all great starts. Buy a tutorial book to get you started and learn from there.3. Play Sports -Find a physical activity that will get you to move and provides a challenging environment. Not only will this keep you healthy, but it will put your mind into a state of flow more easily than sitting on the couch.4. Learn a New Language -Challenge yourself to learn a new language. This has always been a goal of mine. I’ve heard from many sources that it can be both challenging an enjoyable to gain fluency in a non-native tongue.5. Play a Game -Computer games and interactive entertainment can be great ways to produce flow. Although you can get addicted to the enjoyable environment, structuring a small amount of time to play games can engage you mind to have fun.6. Start a Project -One of my personal favorites is to get a new project going. Starting a project to complete something over the course of a couple months can be exciting and incredibly rewarding. Go start that novel you’ve been thinking about. 还是在Lifehack.org上浏览文章? /200811/56280

It was ordained of God as the foundation and bond of family life, for the mutual help and comfort of the husband and wife. It is a covenant, not a contract. Marriage is therefore not to be entered upon by any thoughtlessly, but thoughtfully, reverently, and in the fear of God. Into this holy estate these two persons come now to be joined. I charge you both, before God the searcher of all hearts, that having considered the holy covenant you are about to make, you do now declare before this company your pledge of faith and love towards each other. Dress yourself beautifully /200911/89057Once I received a thank-you note from a friend whom I had helped. America 美国 An American woman living in Wisconsin volunteered to tutor1 English to a Japanese woman who had moved into the same community. “Before each lesson, and on each and every visit,” the American reported, “the Japanese lady brought me a gift — a book, some paper sculpture, flowers, or candy. It was embarrassing.” Unknowingly, this American was experiencing a vestige of protocol rooted centuries deep in the Japanese culture. In America, lavish, extravagant gifts are definitely out. An appropriate alternate to a gift is to take the deserving person to dinner, or to an entertainment or sporting event. On the contrary, gift giving is an institution and a revered custom in Japan. According to Business Tokyo magazine, among the Japanese “gift giving is a necessity, not merely a nicety as in the West.” In Japan the proper gift is thought to express the giver's true friendship, gratitude, and respect far better than words can. So if you plan to visit Japan or to have Japanese visit you here, be prepared. So you know gift giving plays a very important role in nowadays society. Now let's see what's happened in other countries. Australia is known for its friendly informality and lack of pretentiousness8. So modest gifts, such as a business diary, a paperweight, or a coffee mug might be presented as a memento9 of a visit of business meeting. At a trade show, T-shirts, ties, baseball caps, or a pin may be appropriate mementos. Anything more than these types of gifts could cause embarrassment. The most common form of showing appreciation in Greece is probably an evening's entertainment. If you do present a gift, avoid personal items, such as ties and shirts. If you are invited to a Greek home, flowers or a cake for the hostess are an appropriate gift. A West Virginia executive, visiting Germany for the first time, was invited to the home of his largest customer. He decided to be gallant4 and bring his hostess a bouquet of flowers. He selected a dozen red roses. Oops! Terrible mistake! Social gift giving is popular and well-established in Germany but has certain do's and don'ts. Flowers are often taken to a hostess of a dinner party at her home, but there are three taboos to remember: 1)red roses signify a romantic interest, 2)an even5 number of flowers signifies bad luck, as does the number thirteen, and 3)always unwrap the flowers before presenting them. This West Virginia was making what amounted to a pass at his customer's wife. When visiting a German home, gifts that reflect your home country are popular, and you might want to bring small gifts for the children of the family you are visiting. Gifts are customarily6 wrapped and many Germans spend considerable time designing elegant wrappings. Most shops offer gift-wrapping services, too. When you are invited to a person's home for dinner, it might be nice to bring flowers or a box of chocolates for your hostess, although it is just as considerate to have the flowers sent the next day. Yellow roses can signify “jealousy.” And in Italy never send chrysanthemums7, since they suggest death. /200903/64225

A six-year-old primary school pupil is giving the stars of The Apprentice a run for their money, with her flourishing sweet shop business. While contestants of the B television show failed to impress in one of the episodes with their confectionery brand, which was criticized for having too many product offerings, little Mollie Price has concentrated on British sweets and American candy. She is now celebrating the launch of her third shop called ;Mollie#39;s; in the Welsh market town of Welshpool. In recognition of her business achievements she has been declared one of the youngest entrepreneurs in the UK. With the help of her mother Becky, she recently opened her third store in Shrewsbury#39;s Pride Hill Shopping Centre to add to two existing branches on Welshpool High Street and in Newtown#39;s Bear Lanes Shopping Centre. Her mother says Mollie - who organises and selects all of the stock for each of the branches - is now determined to expand her empire. Becky said: ;It might sound crazy but believe Mollie is the real brains behind the operation. It was Mollie#39;s idea to set up the shop. She used to love going to pic n mix places and saw there was a gap in the market for it.;她说:;或许听上去有些难以置信,但真的是莫莉自己在打点糖果店生意。 ;;She works in one of the stores on Saturday and wakes up at 5am every Sunday y to go to our wholesale suppliers in Birmingham to restock. She asks her friends to test the sweets to decide which ones are good.;;她每周六都要在店里值班,每周五凌晨5:00就起床准备到伯明翰进货了。 ;;She has plans to expand the business and we might be setting up a new store. She#39;s definitely leaning towards a career in business and she has plans to take over the sweet shops when she#39;s older. It#39;s been a great learning experience for her.;;她想把生意做大,正考虑新开一家店呢。 ;Honouring her favourite film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Mollie has included a plethora of Wonka products. And at the entrance to the shops are two large tin soldiers standing guard named after her two brothers Alfie and George. Becky adds: ;If she doesn#39;t think an idea will work she will say so. By listening to Mollie we are making sure our shops appeal to all ages.;妈妈贝基又说:;莫莉认为想法不妥时会直言不讳,所以征询莫莉的意见很有好处,这样店里的糖果才能吸引各年龄段的顾客。;;She came up with the idea of a temperature chart on the wall so if it#39;s really cold we sell our Mr Whippy ice creams cheaper than when it#39;s hot outside.;;莫莉甚至在墙上贴了一张气温图。 ; /201206/187865
